    What kind of final gear ratio do you have on your XK? I know WK 3.0 CRD have 3.55 in Laredo and 3.73 in Liminted or North(towing package). I found 3.73 trasmission feels like have diabled sprag on OD( AKA tow mode all the time), while 3.55 trasmission feels like coasting all the time, and there is significant differnce in fuel economy too. Anyway, great project, i might want to do one next year!

    The slowness was worth it for the extra MPGs. The 4.1L V8 gas engine was originally rated at 14 city 19 highway 16 combined average. The 5.7 V8 diesel was originally rated at 23 city 37 highway 27 combined average. I'd like to hear from someone who actually owns the diesel if that rating is accurate though. I'm sure it gets much better fuel mileage than the gas engine but 37mph highway seems pretty high. If it really got that much I'd find one and daily drive it!

    fun test. I noticed that it’s most comfortable to drive on light off-road conditions at level 2 or 3; the suspension handles especially softly in any wet mud. and grips better without falling off the top of the track. It’s also interesting that the height of the 60 tires also fits into the arch. I thought that no more than the standard 225 55 is suitable. You have interesting videos from off-road, I didn’t think that Allroad was capable of this

      No real need to, the ESP takes over and will apply brakes to wheel that is slipping and limit engine RPM and move power to wheels that are fixed but not moving. It’s an interesting feeling when your driving one and the ESP takes over at slower speeds, you have a tendency to push down on the throttle more during a climb situation, and the ESP takes over …

    Great video but I'm confused by you saying its blue plated i.e. street legal, but you had to add signal lights, so was yours the FE 570 S or the plain FE 570 (no 'S')? In Canada I'd have thought they come with signal lights from factory, or at least wired to install their lights kit, but you had to install your own wiring. Maybe yours came with the same rear 'signal lights' mine has, which really isn't a pair of lights at all but a tail/brake light that blinks on the left or right side of the single light, which I'd think shouldn't even be legal since how can someone behind tell which side is blinking? It's light weight and nothing to get ripped off but I may have to add separate signal lights which may be to do what you did. I was hoping I could just tie into the same wiring for the stock signal light in that 'one light does all' one but maybe you found that was impossible and it required separate wiring to be installed.

    • @BoysToysAndAFarm
      @BoysToysAndAFarm 5 месяцев назад

      Mine is simply FE570, no "s". It was registered for the street already when I bought it, even though it didn't have signal lights or mirrors etc. I suspect when the bike was new it was registered for the street using a fake safety; hence the missing accessories. It did already have brake lights from both brakes.

    Kudos to you for doing the wiring modifications, nice project. Too bad the stupid salt Ontario spreads on the roads with pleasure has taken a toll, vinyl tops are a car killer for sure. Also, being from Ontario myself, our classics, not used in winter, get Fluid Filmed and professionally sprayed with Corrosion Free to keep any possible crap left on the roads from doing the dirty deed. I see this video is 2-years old, is the car still around? An uncle had a 1984 as well, but in a sort of copper color, it was a very plush car, going back many years.

  • @SammyVista1972
    @SammyVista1972 5 месяцев назад

    Love these old diesel GM cars. GM as usual cheaped out on small, but vital things to make these a lot more reliable. This has been discussed at length. When running right, they were amazing especially on the highway for mileage. We had the 5.7 diesels in the family and well over 30 (imperial) miles per gallon was the norm during long distance drives. We had experience from past diesels (Mercedes, Peugeot) so we knew the increased maintenance diesels needed, plus water separators were added to the 5.7s. Oil changes were done maximum at 5000 km's - 3200 miles. Perhaps we were lucky, but never had a head gasket go, maybe the mainly long distance highway driving/constant speeds played a part, but it seems many other folks were having problems. Nice looking Cadillac!

    Ya gotta manually hold it in lower gears and spin the engine up. The DX block in that '82 will survive the abuse and you will find untapped horsepower. Don't do it all the time, though I did and never had a bottom end failure. By 1982, the real weakness was the head gasket, the over-rated stanidyne injection pump, and the lockup converter. Oh yeah, the water pump has special small blades.... Do yourself a favor and drill a small hole in the thermostat so it can know how hot the water in the engine is so it doesn't need to slam open. This in some vehicles will prevent the slamming open of the thermostat once the head temps overshoot resulting in warped heads due to flash cooling.

    350 diesel?

    • @tehagent1321
      @tehagent1321 5 месяцев назад

      They were a huge failure and set back diesels in the US by 20+ years. They basically tried to make a normal 350 block and heads do diesel duty. The biggest issue was the head gaskets blowing but they also had other issues. Once the news was out that diesels were bad, it was game over until German Autos came across sporting actual diesel engine designs. I honestly feel like we're still set back - turbo diesel was/is a great way to get plenty of torque and also have great economy at cruising speeds. Unfortunately, the USA is stuck on massive horsepower numbers and diesels typically spin low RPM, meaning low HP numbers despite insane torque figures.
